Hi-Line Football Roundup: Chester/J-I survives

There may have only been a handful of local football games over the weekend, but here were still some interesting results.

On Friday, the Northern C 6-Man Big Sandy Pioneers put their unbeaten streak alive, but came up with their first loss of the season. It was a tight win by No. 4 Valier, but an upset nonetheless, as Valier defeated the No. 3 Pioneers 46-44 in a high scoring affair.

There were not statistics submitted from the Big Sandy loss.

The Pioneers have another huge game this Saturday when they travel to North Star.

Glasgow 66, Harlem 0

Unfortunately for the Class B Harlem Wildcats, they too suffered a loss on Friday.

The hosting Scotties defeated the Wildcats 66-0. The Wildcats couldn't get their offense rolling, and had no answer for the Scotties, as they went on to score 20 in the first, 19 in the second, seven in the third and 20 more in the fourth and final frame.

The Wildcats are now 1-4 on the season. Harlem hosts Wolf Point Friday night.

Chester/J-I 32, Power-Dutton-Brady 24

The No. 2 Chester/J-I Hawks were also in action on Friday, and were victorious in front of home fans in Chester.

In a very close game through three quarters, the Hawks utilized a 14-6 fourth quarter to grab the eight-point win. The Hawks trailed 12-6 at the half, but tied the game at 18-18 through three quarters before the two fourth quarter scores helped edge PDB. The Hawks are 6-0 in the conference with this win.

Erik Kelly had another huge week for the Hawks, rushing for 232 yards and two scores. Kelly's scores came from three-yards out and 37-yards out. C/J-I's Dustin Romain also passed for 85-yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Tim Stokes both times. Stokes also took a 70-yard punt return to the house.

The Hawks visit Sunburst on Saturday.

Chinook 50, Cascade 12

The Class C 8-Man Chinook Sugarbeeters played on Friday, and turned in another impressive win, as they defeated Cascade 50-12. The Beeters maintain second place in the conference behind the Hawks, but more importantly kept their post season hopes alive.

With the win the Beeters are no 5-1.

Chinook is on the road again, at Simms Saturday.

Geraldine-Highwood 26, North Star 12

On Saturday, the Class C North Star Knights stumbled at home in 6-Man play.

The Knights struck first with a 6-0 lead through one quarter, but then couldn't keep pace with the Rivals. The Rivals posted 12 in the second quarter, and 14 in the second half, while the Knigts had one more score through the same remaining time period.

Thathcher Smith scored for the Knights on a 25-yard TD pass from Cameron Spicher, while Jaxon Simonson reeled in a two-yard pass from Spicher as well. The Knights offense accounted for 284 total yards, 163 of that coming from the rushing game. The Rivals had 356 total yards.

The Knights host Big Sandy in a big North Division showdown on Saturday in Rudyard.
