Jay Dwight 'J. D.' Griggs
Jay Dwight "J. D." Griggs, 41, of Havre, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, of a heart attack.
His memorial service is Friday, Sept. 2, at 1 p. m. at First Lutheran Church, Havre, with burial of ashes at a later date.
J. D. was born on Jan. 3, 1970, in Kalispell, Mont. His parents are James and Bonita Griggs. He grew up in Conrad and Havre, attending Havre Public Schools. He received his GED and welding certificate from Job Corps and went to Florida to weld. He then moved to California before returning to Havre.
J. D. loved spending time with his daughter, Gina Marie, as well as watching "Jeopardy, " and "Wheel of Fortune. " He loved music and was learning to play the guitar. He especially enjoyed camping trips with is family, playing cards and teasing his 10 nieces and nephews.
J. D. is survived by his daughter, Gina Griggs of Havre; his parents, Jim and Bonita Griggs of Havre; his brothers, Cameron Griggs of Missoula, and Kendall (Rose) Griggs of Conrad; sisters, Chamene (Cliff) Plum and Vanessa (Mark Hofer) Griggs, both of Havre; nephews, Jaden Griggs and Zach Plum of Havre and Sidney and Luke Griggs of Conrad; nieces, Christina Plum, Berlyn and Bailey Griggs of Havre and Kayla, Alicia and Keiana Griggs of Missoula; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his birth mom, Charlene Schleifer of Kalispell; and two half-sisters, Melissa Nutter of Kalispell and Ashley Schleifer of Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Gladys Mortensen and Marvin and Lucille Young; and his uncle, Dwight Young.
