There is no doubt that Havre High School junior Sammy Evans is one of the top Blue Pony athletes. Evans has been a standout at HHS since her freshman year and has made her mark on the basketball court, volleyball court and, especially, the track.
Evans has been a key component of the success the basketball and volleyball teams have found over the last three seasons and has been standout in the track scene. She has made the trip to state two times already and has most recently grabbed a No. 2 finish in the triple jump last season.
But now as the end of her junior year approaches, Evans looks to grab a few more top spots at the state meet this weekend in Missoula. Evans will compete in the 400-meter relay, 1600-meter relay, 200-meter, triple jump and 400-meter this weekend.
Here are five questions with the budding HHS track star
HDN: What is your favorite thing about the sport of track and field"
Evans: "I would have to say it's the competition. It is very intense, and there is just a high level of intensity."
HDN: Which event do you enjoy competing in the mos
Evans: "The triple jump. It is kind of a weird event, but that is why I like it so much. But I also like it because it is a challenging event, and I never get nervous before I compete."
HDN: What are your long term goals for track?
Evans: "I would like to go to college and compete if I can get a scholarship. But for high school, I just want to keep getting better."
HDN: How does it feel to accomplish something like a top finish at the state meet?
Evans: "It is really cool actually, because I don't think a Havre High girl has placed in a while."
HDN: What meet/team do you enjoy competing in or against the most during the regular season?
Evans: "I really like the Top 10 meet because of how intense it is. I like it because I get to go against the top talent in my area."
