MSU-N's Schermele a repeat NAIA All-American

For the second straight year, Montana State University-Northern's Samm Scheremele has received the NAIA's highest honor.

On Tuesday night, the NAIA realeased it All-American Team for the 2010-11 season, and Schermele, a senior at Northern was named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. The senior from Great Falls High also received the honor last season.

Schermele just recently wrapped up one of the most prolific careers in Northern women's history. She led the Frontier Conference and was eighth in the NAIA in scoring this season at 19.6 points per game. She was also in the top 10 in the country in free-throw shooting, and finished her career third on Northern's all-time scoring list.

Schermele is also a three-time Frontier First-Team All-Conference performer, and finished third in player of the year voting in the league this season.

Several other Frontier players received all-american honors as well. Lewis-Clark State's Jasmine Stohr earned second-team honors, while Carroll's Alysha Green, Montana Tech's Tashae Higbee and Westminster's Michelle Pace and Nicole Yazzie joined Schermele as honorable mention honorees.

The NAIA also released the men's all-american team this week. Inexplicably, no Northern players were named to the list. UM-Western's Brandon Brown, the Frontier's player of the year earned first-team honors while Carroll's Andy Garland earned second-team accolades. Westminster's Michael Stockton was third-team all-american, while UGF's Mark Celeya and Westminster's Jake Orchard were honorable mention.
