Four Ponies earn Central A accolades

While the boys and girls basketball seasons were up and down for the Havre Blue Ponies, several Pony players have been honored for their 2010-11 season.

The Central A released its postseason awards and two Pony boys and two Pony girls were honored.

Topping the list on the boys side is senior Anfernee Standing Rock, who was not only named Central A First-Team All-Conference, but Class A All-State as well. In his final season at HHS, Standing Rock averaged 19 points and four rebounds per game, was one of the top scorers in Class A and scored in double figures in 18 of Havre High's 20 games this season. Standing Rock was joined on the all-state list by Butte Central's Jonathan Richards and Browning's Charles Old Chief.

HHS junior Logan Connor also earned Central A First-Team All-Conference honors for the season. Connor came in just behind Standing Rock at 118.8 points per game, which was also among the leaders in Class A boys basketball this season. Andy Ritter of Butte Central rounds out the Central A First Team.

Also being honored on the boys side was Havre High head coach Andy Smith, who was named Central A coach of the year. Smith led the Ponies to a second-place finish in the regular season.

Two Blue Pony girls garnered Central A All-Conference honors as well.

Havre High senior Paighton Gilman earned Central A Second-Team honors after leading the Ponies in both scoring and rebounding. Gilman averaged 11 points and seven rebounds per game, and came on strong at the end of the season, averaging 15 points per game in her last seven games. HHS sophomore Jaclyn Evans earned Central A Honorable Mention honors. Evans is in her second season as the Blue Pony point guard and had a productive year. Evans was among the team leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.

The Central A had three girls make Class A All State. Quinn Peoples and Lexi Murphy of state champion Butte Central earned all-state honors as did Lindsey Halgren of Belgrade.
