Warburton's home guard is extremist
Editor:
Those of you who voted for state Rep. Wendy Warburton probably thought she was a one-issue candidate — that her only goal is to ban abortion, even though it's legal in this country and that most people are pro-choice. She's intent on forcing her religious viewpoint on others.
That's not all she's been up to down in Helena. Warburton has introduced a bill to allow armed militia groups to form around the state — with some state funding, no less.
Warburton claims that law enforcement, firefighters and the Montana National Guard have been inadequate to the task of addressing emergencies and that her House Bill 278 would simply allow well-intentioned volunteers to help out. But if you read the bill, you'll see it actually would allow the formation of armed private military units with their own training, uniforms, flags and chains of command.
There are no real safeguards in this bill. It frightens me to think of armed extremist thugs in their company uniforms enforcing their interpretation of the law on those who don't agree.
Do you know who supports this bill? Delusional extremists who think our democratically elected federal government is out to send us all to internment camps or otherwise steal our freedoms. Extremists are congratulating Warburton, and decent people here and around the country are wondering what's going on in Montana again.
