Havre High School senior Simon McCann is in the midst of his final golf season as a Blue Pony. He is a four-year varsity golfer for the Blue Ponies, and even made the trip to the Class A State Tournament last season as a junior.

McCann, last season's HHS MVP, is hoping to make the trip to state golf this season as well. And with McCann also being a three-year varsity tennis player, he also hopes to make the state tennis tournament this upcoming season.

McCann has been a staple member of both the HHS golf and tennis teams for the last three years, and while riding dirt bikes is also a favorite pastime of his, he's certainly ready for a few more swings on the links.

Here's five questions with Havre High's golf and tennis standout as the golf portion of his career winds down.

HDN: What is it you like about golf so much?

McCann: "I just like the game really. I also like that I get the chance to travel around the state and play on new courses and play with new kids. It's just fun."

HDN: Where is your favorite place to play during the season?

McCann: "My favorite place I think would have to be the Meadow Lark Country Club in Great Falls. It is a challenging course and the greens are fast, and it is just well maintained. It is a good golf course all the way around."

HDN: What pro golfer, if any, do you follow the closest?

McCann: "I actually don't watch a lot of professional golf. It's one of those things where I love to play it, but don't really watch. It's kind of like paint drying I guess."

HDN: What is the toughest thing about playing 18 holes of golf?

McCann: "Staying mentally there the entire time. When you are golfing 18 holes in high school, it can turn into seven hours of walking around a golf course, and if you get out of it, you can have some blowup holes that really make your score go up."

HDN: What do you think is the strongest part of your game?

McCann: "Well up until last weekend it was playing consistent. I didn't golf very well at all this last weekend, but I really do think being consistent is my all-around best part. I think I do have a good drive, but playing consistent is the best part, and it helps me not to have a lot of blowup holes."

The Havre High boys and girls golf teams are set to travel to Browning for the 2011 Central A Divisional Tournament Saturday. The 18-hole Class A state qualifier will be played at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course Saturday morning, with the top three teams and top 15 individuals qualifying for next week's state tournament in Hamilton.
