The road is always tough when it comes to the game of baseball.
And it was especially tough for the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team this past week.
Last Tuesday saw the North Stars drop a Northern A doubleheader to the Great Falls Electrics in Great Falls, and, over the weekend, Havre went 1-4 at the prestigious Gallatin Valley Tournament in Three Forks.
The North Stars started tournament play on Friday with games against Lewistown and Gallatin Valley. In the first game of the weekend, the North Stars were shut out by the Lewistown Redbirds 8-0. Havre didn't fare much better on Friday night as the North Stars were beaten by the host Gallatin Valley Outlaws 10-2. It was the second loss to the Outlaws in as many weeks for Havre.
Saturday started off much the same as Havre fell to the talented Bitterroot Red Sox 16-0. The Red Sox are annually one of the top teams in Class A Legion baseball.
But right after the loss to the Red Sox, the North Stars turned things around with a 10-2 win over the Butte Muckers to close out Saturday's action in Three Forks.
On Sunday, Havre again fell to the Glendive Blue Devils, this time by a score of 9-3. The North Stars also lost to the Blue Devils at the North Stars Memorial Tournament just over a week ago, but on Sunday, they played the talented Blue Devils very tough.
Havre, which was short-handed this weekend in Three Forks, dropped to 9-11 overall on the season with the 1-4 record at the Gallatin Valley tourney.
The North Stars are back at home for an important Northern A doubleheader on Wednesday against the Fort MacLeod Royals.
