Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

It was a busy week of high school volleyball along the Hi-Line, and there were plenty of intriguing matches in the area.

Tuesday night saw a pair of big Hi-Line rivalries, including in Rudyard where the Chester/J-I Hawks knocked off the North Stars Knights in a five-set thriller. The Hawks dropped the first game 22-25, but won the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-12. However, the Knights won the fourth set to force a decisive fifth game and where Hawks prevailed 15-7.

Kate Graff had seven kills and a whopping 13 aces to lead the Hawks. Jenni Ghekiere added 13 digs and two kills and Sadie Brown had seven kills and 11 assists. The Knights got 14 kills, three blocks and two digs by Shelby Lipp. Bettie Carlon had nine kills and 11 asissts and Lisa Carlon added six aces and 12 assists in the loss.

Tuesday night also saw Rocky Boy fall to Class C Big Sandy in a five-set match in Big Sandy. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-9 in a back-and-forth match.

Shaylee Cook led the way for the Pioneers with 13 digs and six aces, while Brooke Leader had 20 assists and Ashley Alderdice had eight kills. The Morning Stars got 10 kills from Leah Gopher, while Sabrina LaForge had 23 assists.

Big Sandy kept its winning ways going on Thursday night with an easy win over Hays-Lodge Pole. The Pioneers beat the T-Birds by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-9 and Brooke Leader led the way with three kills and six assists.

Thursday night saw Rocky Boy lose a District 1B match to Shelby by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9 In Shelby. The Morning Stars Tennae Singer had 10 kills in the loss, while LaForge had seven assists and two aces.

On Friday night, Chester/J-I won its second five-set District 6C East match of the week, this time taking down Chinook in five games in Chinook. In a marathon match, the Hawks on by scores of 25-22, 29-27, 13-25, 21-25 and 15-11 to grab control of the district.

Jenni Ghekiere had eight kills and four blocks for the Hawks, while Jocelyn Woods added 13 digs and Kate Graff had five service aces. Makhayla Farmer paced Chinook with 14 kills and five blocks. Paige Moxley added 11 digs on defense in the loss.

Also on Friday night, Big Sandy couldn't quite make it three in a row for the week. In a nonconference match in Simms, the Pioneers lost by scores of 25-6, 25-20 and 25-23 to the Tigers.

Molly Herron led the way for Big Sandy with three kills and two blocks. Shaylee Cook added eight of Big Sandy's 24 digs.
