Hi-Line Football Roundup

Hi-Line football continues to move forward and find success this season, as four local teams were able to record a victory this weekend.

After a tough 58-21 loss last weekend to Savage, the Class C 6-Man Big Sandy Pioneers got back on track Friday night.

Hosting the No. 3 Stanford-Geyser Wolverines, the unranked Pioneers bounced back into the win column. The Pioneers put on a show for the home fans and grabbed a 42-16 win, increasing their record to 2-1 in the meantime.

Trevore Lackner had another monster game for the Pioneers. Lackner threw for five scores in the outing. He connected with Kaden Beck on a 23-yard pass and a 20-yard pass, Lane Marten on a 23-yard pass and a five-yard pass, and with Colter Darlington on a 10-yard pass. Lackner helped boost the Pioneers to a 36-0 first quarter lead, and they never looked back.

Jessey Bailey also scored on a 24-yard rush for the Pioneers. And defensively, this was a huge game, as the Pioneers allowed just one second quarter score and one third quarter score to the No. 3 ranked Wolverines.

The Pioneers will host Augusta this Friday in Big Sandy.

Chester/J-I 50, Fort Benton 12

Friday also brought a big win to Chester, as the No. 9 Chester/J-I Hawks handed Fort Benton a dominating 50-12 Northern C loss. The Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season and knocked the Longhorns down to 1-3.

Last weekend Leonard Pugsley sparked the comeback win for the Hawks, and was a major factor once again as the Hawks put up 14 points in the first quarter, eight in the second, 16 in the third and 12 in the fourth. The Hawks' defense allowed just six points in the first and six in the second as they cruised for an easy win.

Pugsley rushed for four Hawk's touchdowns on Friday night. His longest of 46 yards was also his first score of the day, but he also added a rushing score from 28 yards, 11 yards and three yards.

Jordan Oraw also scored on a one-yard run for C/J-I, as well as on a three-yard run and an eight-yard run.

C/J-I is amongst the favorites in Class C 8-Man football, and will look to keep rolling on Friday when the Hawks host Tri-County.

Chinook 52, Power-Dutton-Brady 16

On Saturday, the undefeated Chinook Sugarbeeters kept the good times rolling. The Northern C 8-Man Beeters improved to 4-0 on the season when they handed Power-Dutton-Brady a 52-16 loss in Power.

Rising star, Zach Molyneaux rushed for 172 yard and also grabbed three scores. His touchdowns jaunts came from 35, five and 59 yards out. But senior Ben Stroh was also key, rushing for 139 yards and one touchdown. Stroh's touchdown came form 15 yards out, and the Beeters rushed for a total of 277 yards.

Jacob McLean also scored on a 63 yard run and Robby Klingaman also scored on a 14-yard reception.

The top-ranked Beeters were in full control of the contest, leading 22-8 at the half and 46-8 heading into the final frame.

Chinook will host Great Falls Central on Friday for another test in their undefeated season.

North Star 66, Heart Butte 28

The Class C 6-Man North Star Knights made sure to handle the winless Heart Butte Warriors on Saturday on the road.

The Knights defeated the Warriors 66-28 and improved their record to 2-1 overall, while the Warriors remained winless.

Cooper Spicher was the hero this weekend, as the Knights put up scores in all four quarters, including 26 points in the first, 20 in the second, seven in the third and 13 in the fourth. Spicher threw two touchdowns, ran for one and returned a kickoff. Spicher returned a kick for a 55-yard score, rushed for a 57-yard score, and connected with Calvin Vaughn on a 20-yard score and Karston Donovan on a seven-yard score.

Jordy Donovan also came to play, as he added three scores. Jordy Donovan scored on a 30-yard interception return, a 60-yard run and a 20-yard run.

Vaughn also scored on a three-yard run, while Quinn Spinler returned a kick 65 yards for touchdown.

The Knights put together a solid game thiss week and will look to do so again on Saturday, as they face St. Regis on the road.

Choteau 64, Harlem 7

On Friday the 1B Harlem Wildcats weren't one of the fortunate teams, as they dropped to 1-2 on the season. Hosting Choteau, the Wildcats were defeated 64-7 in their home debut.

The lone Wildcat score came in the third quarter when Trevin Fox returned a kickoff 70 yards to pay dirt. Aaron Buffalo converted the PAT for Harlem.

The Wildcats will get back to action on Friday when they travel to face the Malta Mustangs in Malta.
