Our mother, grandma, and friend didn't take any earthly things with her when she passed away Friday, Jan. 14.

The final days of Sandy Peterson of Chelan were spent surrounded by family and friends who she had touched throughout her memorable life. She took people with her. She took the relationships that she had with people she got to know over her life. She took moments of joy and awe and love. We now know she is with us, watching as we continue on our journey. She was beautiful, strong, genuine, and compassionate. Even in her last days she cared about other people more than herself. A battle with PLS led to her passing, and her time was cut short. Why this had to happen to her, we are not sure. And we are saddened that she will not be around to give advice, tell us to be more observant or share her new, eclectic medical cures. We search for guidance and strength from someone omniscient, knowing all. And by that we do rejoice today! We feel a celebration somewhere above is happening, a welcoming where all is right. Sandy, we love you and cherish all of the times we shared. May you rest in peace.

Sandy graduated Billings West High School in Montana and attended Montana State University. She worked and raised her daughters in Havre, Mont., and worked with family in Skagway, Alaska, as well as Jewell Garden and Liars Ville. She spent the last eight years in Chelan, taking care of her grandchildren, doing home health care work, working with the food bank, volunteering at the Chelan Senior Center and was an active member of Red Hatters. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Brown of Manson; daughter, Susan Gatzemeier of Chelan, Russ Gatzemeier of Chelan; husband of 27 years and best friend, Leo Petersen of Tucson, Ariz. ; Teresa's fiance, Pete Dickes of Manson; along with her grandchildren, Brooks Gatzemeier of Chelan, Isabella Gatzemeier of Chelan, and Polly Brown of Skagway, Alaska.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Lake Chelan Lutheran Church located at 216 W. Nixon.

The family requests that any donations be made to the Sandy Petersen Memorial Fund, PO Box 3187, Chelan, Wash., 98816.
