Havre was the
sight of the Northern B-C girls divisional tennis tournament.
On Friday and Saturday, girls teams from
Chinook, Fort Benton, Chester/J-I and Big Sandy battled it out with spots in
this week's Class B-C state tennis tournament on the line. And the race for the
team title was close.
Chinook repeated as divisional champions,
but the Hawks and Longhorns pushed the Beeters. Chinook scored 42 points to
take the team title, while the Hawks were second with 36 and Fort Benton was
third with 35.
Chinook was led by the champion doubles
team of Taryn Norby and Katie Diemert, but also qualified the team of Savannah
Smith and Haley Swank. In all, the Beeters qualified five total players for the
state tournament.
However, it was a good day for the Hawks, who got a singles
championship by Molly Brown and a fourth-place finish from Kylie Richter. C/J-I
will send a total of four players to the state tournament, which starts on
Thursday and runs through Saturday in Missoula.
