Delia Demontiney
Delia Demontiney, 87, a resident of Rocky Boy, died on Monday, June 13, 2011, at University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, of natural causes.
The wake service will start on Thursday afternoon at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with her funeral service and Native American services to be held at 10 a. m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church, with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will be at Rocky Boy Cemetery. Service and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
Delia was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Rocky Boy, Mont., to Mary Stanley and Four Souls. Delia was the granddaughter of Chief Little Bear. She was raised and educated in the Rocky Boy area and attended the Sangrey School. She married Joseph Demontiney Sr. in 1939, and together they made their home in Rocky Boy where they raised their family and farmed and ranched. Delia worked at Titan Electronics, the Chippewa Cree Commodity, for ONAP, as a supervisor, and worked as a cook at the Rocky Boy Senior Center. She baked at the Rocky Boy School until her retirement. Delia enjoyed beading, watching cooking channels and playing bingo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Demontiney Sr. ; her daughters, Laverne and Linda Demontiney; a brother, Henry Foursouls; and grandsons, Brian Gopher, James Sangrey, Darwin Demontiney, Shawn Smart Demontiney and Nick Demontiney; granddaughter, Audrey Demontiney.
She is survived by her children, Peter (Vicky) Demontiney of Rocky Boy, Mont., Jeanette Demontiney, Yvonne Demontiney, Jim (Peggy) Demontiney of Wyola, Mont., Sue Demontiney of Belcourt, N.D., Joe (Melinda) Demontiney Jr. of Box Elder, Mont., Natalie Demontiney of Box Elder, Mont., Mary Demontiney and Haley Demontiney of Great Falls, Mont., Fern (Gary) Doney of Rocky Boy, Mont., Dola (Marvin) Belcourt of Spokane, Wash., Danessa Moreno of Sacramento, Calif. ; adopted daughters, Anna and Irene Gardipee and Wilma Goosey (Kermit) Morsette, all of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; sons, Pete (Jody) Demontiney of Box Elder, Mont., Mickey "Kim" (Violet) Demontiney of Rocky Boy, Mont., Channing (Aja) Demontiney of Havre, Mont. ; adopted sons, Brian (Kelly) Eagleman of Box Elder, Mont., Allen, Vern and James Gardipee, all of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; sisters, Joyce (F. S.) Zella Nault of Rocky Boy, Mont., Mary M. "Enos" Johnson of Rocky Boy, Mont., Ruby (Videl) Stump of Rocky Boy, Mont., Irene Mitchel and Dorothy Small, both of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; brothers, Bruce (Valerie) Sunchild Sr. of Rocky Boy, Mont., Richard Turner of Havre, Mont. ; 58 grandchildren; 127 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one great-geat great-grandchild.
