On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a meeting of U.S.B.C. Youth directors and board members to elect new officers, set schedule for the upcoming year for league and tournaments. Please plan to attend this meeting and let other parents that would like to get involved in youth bowling.
Youth bowling will commence on Oct. 30 at 1:30. Pee Wee bowling will start Nov. 6. (This league is only 6 weeks. By then we will have installed 6 more lanes of bank shot. No more blow up bumpers as they are beyond repair and obsolete.
Did you know that bowling offers more scholarships than any other sport? Yes, it's true, with the men, women, and MBPAA offering scholarships along with more and more colleges having bowling teams. They are looking for top-notch bowlers to offer scholarships to.
It seems like every year we start with a large group of kids and they seem to get smaller as the year progresses. Also we lose a lot of bowlers to hockey, football, basketball, wrestling and other sports. It is too bad we can't get together and work out a schedule for everyone, after all it is the youth who benefit. I would like to see bowling in the schools as a sport, but that is way off in Montana.
TOURNAMENTS: Final week-end of State Senior Tournament at Jack's Lanes in Fort Benton. Call 406-868-4264 for reservations. 10th Annual Tournament. Dick Wolff Mens Scratch Tournament Nov. 5 and Sun. Nov. 6 in Calgary. For more information there is a poster at the lanes.
There is a 9-pin NoTap Tournament in February at the Elks in Great Falls. Call for more information and spots.
TIP OF THE WEEK: The art of Reading Lanes. (1) Watch your ball reaction as it goes down the lanes. (2) Manage your break point. (3) Loft the ball when heads burn up. You don't have to loft the ball to extreme, as most bowling alleys do not allow lofting, Hi Line Lanes included. (4) Keep eye on mid lane reaction. Goes back to watching your ball reaction.
