The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team had its hands full at the 1011 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals on Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Northern went into the dual tournament unseeded, and for the second straight year, the Lights suffered a two-and-out performance. On Saturday monring, the Lights were beaten by sixth-seeded Campblesville in the opening round, then were put out of the tourney by Southern Oregon in the loser-out round.
Northern lost is first dual to Campblesville 24-13. The Lights were open at 125 pounds, and they were able to keep things close in the upper weights, as freshman Max Payne win at 174 pounds, Evan Hinebauch won at 184 and Rudy Schaffroth was victorious at heavyweight. Northern also got a 13-4 win by Anthony Weerheim at 149. Hinebauch, Weerheim and Schafforth went undefeated on the day.
After losing a tough match in the first round, Northern was ousted by the Red Raiders 27-9. SOU also put out UGF in the next round. Against SOU, Weerheim earned a 5-1 decision and Hinebauch an 18-2 technical fall.
The Lights are back in action on Friday and Saturday in Clackamas, Ore.
