Hazel Alice Olson
Hazel Alice Olson, 87, passed away in Bozeman the evening of Feb. 21, 2011, at home, with her loving husband of 60 years, Vern H. Olson, at her side. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 10 a. m., at the Ark Church, the with Rev Kevin Barsotti officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Havre, Mont.
Hazel was the oldest of three children born to Robert I. and Adeline McCutcheon. She was raised on a small homestead near Havre with younger brother, Robert M. McCutcheon of Denver, and younger sister, Joyce.
She attended Havre schools and was active in Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. As a young woman, she worked at H. Earl Clack Company and at the Hill County Court Recorder's office.
Hazel met Vern when her younger sister, Joyce married Vern's younger brother, Roy Olson. She married Vern in the Van Orsdel Methodist church one year later, on June 22, 1950. Hazel and Vern lived briefly in Gary, Ind., before returning to Havre, where they raised their family and lived for the next 55 years.
Hazel's family and her Christian beliefs were the most important things in her life.
She took care of her husband and two sons with an immaculately kept home, the wonderful meals she prepared, and in the way she cared for and encouraged her children in the pursuit of their goals.
She was an active Christian her whole life teaching Sunday school, serving as a member of Aglow, attending Bible studies and having daily devotions with her husband.
Hazel and Vern moved to Bozeman in 2007 to be near family. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Janet K. Olson; sister, Joyce; and Roy Olson.
She is survived by husband Vern H. Olson; sons, Andrew Olson and Brent (Myra) Olson; and brother, Robert M. (Mary Lee) McCutcheon.
Memorials in Hazel's honor may be made to KXEI-FM Radio, (Your Network of Praise), or to a memorial of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service of Bozeman, Mont.
