Marie was born May 11, 1926, to George and Mary Augst, in St. Paul, Minn., where she later graduated high school and worked for the local electric company before venturing west on the Empire Builder in 1946. The train's layover in Havre, Mont., was brief but just long enough for her to meet James T. (Tom) Lowe Sr., who would convince her to stay permanently. The two began 64 wonderful years of marriage on Jan. 7, 1947. After traveling extensively for Tom's work and raising six children, they returned to Havre in 1975, at which time Marie began a 13-year career at Northern Montana Hospital. Marie enjoyed reading, spending time with family, and playing a game of cards over a cup of coffee every morning with Tom.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one grandson.
Marie is survived by her husband, James T. Lowe Sr. of Havre; sisters, Martha and Dorothy, both of St. Paul, Minn. ; six children, Tom (Glenda) Lowe of Havre, Debbie (Toney) Hill of Union Grove, Ala., Mary (Jon) Monteaux of Rocky Boy, Barbie (Paul) Ortiz of Imperial Beach, Calif., Lescia (Jerry) Hedalen of Havre, and John (Pennie) Lowe of Havre; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many caring friends.
