MSU-N's Simpson honored

After a strong outing, and a great start to the 2010-11 season, Montana State University-Northern junior forward Joe Simpson has been honored for his play.

On Monday, Simpson was named Frontier Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's Simpson's first Frontier award of his career.

Simpson is a 6-foot-4, junior forward from Pittsburg, Calif. MSU-Northern romped past Kings University of Canada 74-43 last Wednesday night.

He scored 16 points in the win. Simpson also had one assist, one rebound and three steals. He was 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from free-throw-line.

Simpson is Northern's leading rebounder at just over seven per game this season and he also averages just over nine points per outing.

Also nominated: Jake Orchard of Westminster College and Marcel Towns of the University of Great Falls.

Chloe Mosey of Montana Western was named the Frontier Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Mosey is a 6-foot-1 senior center from Bremerton, Wash. Montana Western routed King's University College of Canada 111-53.

Mosey scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in only 19 minutes and 26 minutes of playing time. She hit 13 of 17 field goals (75 percent)
