Hi-Line girls basketball roundup

High school girls basketball is already proving to be very competitive the Hi-Line. And if this past week was any indication, there's plenty of excitement yet to come.

On Thursday night, the Big Sandy Pioneers got the week off to a hot start by crushing Fort Benton, 76-49 in Big Sandy.

The Pioneers got 22 points each from Mackenzie Jenkins and Hannah Williams, while freshman Molly Herron poured in 17.

Chinook also rolled to a Thursday night win. The Sugarbeeters took care of Dodson 60-15 in Chinook and got nine points from Taryn Norby in the process.

Big Sandy continued to roll on Friday. At home again, the Pioneers took care of District 9C favorite North Star 63-47. The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-4 lead and were never challenged.

Herron nailed five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points for the pioneers, while the Knights got 16 points from Shelby Lipp and 11 by Jordan Spicher in the loss.

In another 9C affair on Friday, powerhouse Box Elder dismantled Chinook 69-44 in Box Elder.

Crystal Stamper led five Bears in double figures with 16 points, while the Beeters got 14 points from Hanson and 12 from Makhayla Farmer.

Hays-Lodge Pole and Chester/J-I didn't have the same luck however.

The Thunderbirds were crushed by Winnett-Grass Range on Friday, 69-29. HLP got eight points from Kristie Runs Above in the loss.

The Hawks too were defeated on Friday. C/J-I lost at rival Sunburst 44-31. C/J-I led 6-2 after one period, but the Refiners took the lead in the second quarter and never trailed again.

In the loss, the Hawks were paced by Nikole Wolfe's seven points.

In a Class B Hi-Line rivalry game on Friday night, the Harlem Wildcats upended the Rocky Boy Morning Stars 69-59 in Harlem.

Harlem trailed 36-34 at intermission, but outscored the Morning Stars 34-23 in the final 16 minutes.

Hyapatia Getten scored 17 points and Marvella Fuller added 12 for the Wildcats, while Rocky Boy got 11 points from Tennae Singer in the loss.

Harlem's winning ways continued on Saturday night with a 63-37 dismantling of Poplar in Harlem.

Rocky Boy was also victorious in Saturday night, taking care of District 1B rival Cut Bank, 49-43 in Rocky Boy.

The Morning Stars were led by Leigha Onco with 11 points and Falene Russette with 10 in the win over the Wolves.

Saturday night also saw Chester/J-I get back on track. In Chester, the Hawks defeated rival Simms, 31-19 behind 11 points from Nikole Wolfe.

Saturday night was also a bounce back night for HLP. In Hays, the T-Birds took down Moore-Judith Gap 52-46. The T-Birds led 22-16 at the half and then held off the Tigers in the fourth quarter.

Anita Denny scored a game-16 points and Shayla White Cow added 10 in the win.

In the 9C on Saturday night, both Box Elder and Bog Sandy continued to roll.

In Gildford, the Bears routed the North Star Knights 71-42 behind 24 points from Aricka Wolf Chief and 16 from Crystal Stamper. The Knights were led by Shelby Lipp's 13 points and seven rebounds.

And in Denton, Big Sandy beat back the Trojans 65-46 for a third straight win.

The Pioneers had to go overtime to win, and got 21 points from Mariah Gullickson and 18 from Molly Herron in the process.

There was also action on Monday night, and the Pioneers finally fell. Bog Sandy was beaten by Winifred-Roy 49-34 in Big Sandy. But Box Elder pulled out a huge Monday night win, beating 8C powerhouse Fort Benton 59-55 in Box Elder. In Class B action Malta took care of Rocky Boy46-27 in Rocky Boy.
