Wildcats, Beeters perform on Glasgow mats

Hi-Line teams have already shown this season just how good the wrestling is around these parts.

And prep squads from the area did so again at the Glasgow Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Glasgow Tournament featured three-time defending Class B-C state champion and host Glasgow, as well as Class A power Lewistown. But that didn't stop the Chinook Sugarbeeters and Harlem Wildcats from having plenty of success on the mat.

No team scores were reported from Saturday's meet, but the Beeters had three individual champions, and placed five wrestlers in the finals, while Harlem had a meet-leading four champions and five wrestlers reach the championship round.

The Wildcats put on a dominating performance by getting titles from Shay Snider (98), Teague Jones (105), Colten Dirden (135) and Jace Johnson (HWT). Johnson bested teammate Trent Noel in the heavyweight final.

Chinook also stood tall in the championship round.

Angelo Flores captured the 112-pound title, Ben Stroh beat teammate Cord Anderson in the 189-pound championship match and Jorrell Jones captured the 215-pound title. The Beeters also got a second-place from Geoff Qualls at 119 points, while Big Sandy's Weston Brown was second at 171 pounds.

Glasgow had four champions, while Lewistown added three winners Saturday.

Both Chinook and Harlem will be in action this weekend at Montana's premier regular season tournament, the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls. The CMR tournament is a bracketed two-day, double-elimination event featuring all of Class AA, as well as select teams from Class A and B-C. It's considered the most competitive two days of wrestling during the Montana regular season.
