Eight Ponies honored for football

Even after the 2010 season, the Havre High Blue Ponies football team is earning recognition.

The Central A Blue Ponies finished out the season with a conference record of 3-2, as well as an overall record of 5-4 after a trip to the first round of the state playoffs. And after a hard-fought season, many of the Ponies' athletes were rewarded for their efforts.

Logan Connor was named Central A second-team All-Conference corner and honorable mention wide receiver, while Corderro Strickland was named second team All-Conference wide receiver and honorable mention corner. And Ryan Brandt was named second team All-Conference running back, while Josh Salapich was named second team All-Conference offensive tackle and Justin Jensen was named second team All-Conference quarter back.

Casey Schaub was named honorable mention running back and honorable mention linebacker. Brayden Grimson was also named honorable mention safety.

Danny Roe also garnered some much deserved recognition.

Roe was named first team All-Conference offensive guard as well as second team All-Conference defensive tackle and second team All-Conference kicker. Roe also grabbed the status as an All-State player.

As a team the Ponies rushed for 1000 yards and passed for 1789 yards on the season. Overall they put up 2789 yards for a league leading 348.6 yards per game average. And on defense, the Ponies allowed 1074 rushing yards and 990 passing yards for a 258 yards per game average, third best in the conference.

The Ponies also handed out team awards.

Schaub rushed for 511 yards on the season and averaged 11.4 tackles per game on his way to earning the team MVP award and Jensen completed 102-of-179 pass attempts for 1665 total yards (208.1 yards per game) on his way to earning the teams Offensive MVP award. Connor led the conference with six interceptions and earned the team's Defensive MVP award.

And Roe did a little bit of everything, averaging 8.4 tackles per game, recovering one fumble, going 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and hitting 20-of-29 PAT attempts as he went on to earn the team's Hit-Hustle award.

Kolby Sukut also earned junior varsity offensive MVP, while Cameron Pribyl was named junior varsity defensive MVP. Tristan Manuel was named freshman offensive MVP and Tyler Adams was named freshman defensive MVP.
