Charles Gopher, 77, died Sunday Nov. 21, 2010 at the Benefis West ER due to natural causes. His wake service will begin Monday at 4 p.m. with his traditional service 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, all at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
Charles was born Sept. 8, 1933, in Rocky Boy, to Joe and Sitting Pretty (Ochino) Gopher. He was raised and educated and graduated from high school. He received his associate's degree in automotive technology. Charles married Ruby Roastingstick, and together they made their home on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation and raised their family. Charles was known as Dad, Uncle, Shoom, Great Grandfather, a well-known singer and North American Song Composer and Sundance helper. He was the cultural consultant for the tribe and served as a tribal council member for four years and also served on the school board for many years. He was the number one fan of the Rocky Boy Stars and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play basketball and all of their other sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Marilyn Gopher; grandchildren; baby Gopher, Dylan Gopher and Lindell Gopher; his sister, Rosie (Gopher) Windy Boy; and brother; Paul Gopher.
Charles is survived by his wife, Ruby (Roastingstick) Gopher of Rocky Boy, Mont .; his children, Jonathan Gopher Ona Gopher and Leah LaMere, all of Rocky Boy, Mont .; adopted children, Lorena Revis of Heart Butte, Mont., Olivia Gopher of Rocky Boy, Mont., LeRoy Windy Boy Jr. of Topenish, Wash., Upendra A. of Nepal; Joe Morsette of Rocky Boy, Mont., Austin and August Spotted Wolf of Wolfpoint, Mont., and Ron "Little Supper" Doney of Fort Belknap, Mont .; grandchidlren, Skylar, Sabrina, Shadow and Jurnee Laforge, Leah Gopher, Michael, Clayton Ramons and Rayona Gopher, Joshua Sr. Land, Nicole, Miechelle, Jennifer and Lisa LaMere, Leison Oats Kendall, Marie, Rayelle, Shuree, Mariah, Randon Jr., Kierane Arkinson, Lynette, Cody, Charles, Jaelene and Jade Revis; great-grandchildren, Dream Sohappy, Katelynn Big Knife, Kaleb and Kayden LaMere; Tyla and Tyre Crow, Lazz The Boy, Jazlynn and Joshua LaMere Jr.
