Sandra Tierney Stanley

Sandra (Harris) Tierney Stanley was born March 7, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn. She passed away Nov. 15, 2010, of pancreatic cancer.

After completing her teaching degree at Washington State University in Pullman, she relocated to Havre, Mont., in 1970 continuing her teaching career and completing graduate school.

She returned to Vancouver, Wash., in 1974 working in the Vancouver public school district. She completed her doctorate at Oregon State University in 1990 and was a professor of education at the University of Portland until 1997.

Most recently she worked as a curriculum consultant, at Donald E. Long Juvenile Correctional Facility, in Portland, Ore. Sandra enjoyed vacationing in Mexico and taking cruises with her husband, Ken.

She graduated from Evergreen High School in 1955. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Washington State University, her master's degree from Montana State University-Northern and her Ph.D. from Oregon State University in 1990.

Her career included time as a teacher's aide in Camas Wash .; a kindergarten teacher in Pullman, Wash .; an elementary teacher at Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in 1972; an elementary and special education teacher, in the Vancouver public school district; an educational consultant for the HOSTS Corporation; a professor of education at the University of Portland; and a curriculum consultant for the Donald E. Long Juvenile Correctional Facility in Portland, Ore.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth C. Stanley; her daughters, Karlyn Tierney Byham, (her granddaughters, McKenzie and Wesley) and Mary Tierney, (grandson, Avery Grams); and her brothers, Clement Harris and Larry Govin.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Lee Alsteen Beets and Linda Lefke
