Merlin Leslie Cantin, 88, died Oct. 29, 2010, at a nursing home in Lewistown, Mont., of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place, and his memorial service will be 3 p. m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Cleve McSwain officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church for family and friends immediatley after the service.

Memorials in Merlin's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Merlin was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Virginia, Minn., to Audoph and Lillian (Pue) Cantin. He was raised and educated in Davenport, Iowa. He married Inetia Ervin Oct. 12, 1943, in Lewistown, Mont. Together they raised their four children and made their home in Lewistown, Mont. Merlin enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Merlin returned to Portland, Ore., and worked for Pacific Northwest Bell, which is now AT&T.

He and Inetia liked to travel and wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz., before moving to Lewistown in 2001.

Merlin enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lawance Catin.

Merlin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Inetia M. Cantin of Havre, Mont. ; his daughters. Linda Warneke of Havre, Mont., Sharon (Lynn) Withers of Gladstone, Ore. and Pamela (Terry) Voltz of Mesa, Ariz. ; one son, Leslie Cantin of Havre, Mont. ; brothers, Arthur Cantin of Williston, N.D., and Robert Cantin of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Bob (Jodi) Warneke, Barbara (Ron) Knesky, Lori (Jason) Warren, Delaina (David) Runestand, Bryan (Jodi) Cantin, Nicole (Richard) Glenn, Scott (Mary) Withers, Heath Voltz and Tyson Voltz; great-grandchildren, Alex and Zachary Warneke; Jake Konesky, Justin Konesky; Kyle Konesky; Briana Warren, Jordyn Warren, Paige Warren, David Runestrand, Victoria Runestrand, Kassidy Cantin, Kylee Cantin, Scintillia Glenn, Jacob Glenn, Ben Glenn and Madelin Glenn.
