Gladys Ruth (Hamon) Peters

Gladys Ruth Peters beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear child of God, passed away peacefully at Liberty Heights skilled nursing facility in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Oct. 26, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Taylor Peters, who passed away Jan. 14, 2007. She is survived by her sisters, Mabel (Hamon) Prim and Lois (Hamon) Richardson; her brothers, Alva Hamon and Harold Hamon; her children, Gordon Denis (Marilyn), Donald D. (Jamie), Rebecca Peters Weatherwax (Gary Albertson), David E. Peters (Kathy) and Daniel R. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Ruth Hamon was born Dec. 19, 1918, on the family homestead in Simpson, Mont., north of Havre. She was the fourth of eight children of Delbert Raymond Hamon and Gertrude (Newton) Hamon. The family moved from the homestead to Havre when she was in the first grade. She attended both grade school and high school in Havre graduating in 1937. She worked at the Havre Woolworth store while in high school. She soon met and married her husband of 69 years, Gordon Taylor Peters. Her life from that time on was her family.

She lived into her 90s, always deeply devoted and committed to her family and her Christian faith. She loved all her family without reservation. Though suffering from macular degeneration and other afflictions of aging in later years, her vigor and passion to study the biblical scriptures was undiminished. Toward the end of his life, whenever Dad saw Mom, he would greet her with a beaming smile a burst of joy saying "there she is my 'Glady Ruth'." We believe she received the same greeting on Oct. 26.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her final resting place will be beside her beloved husband in Memorial Gardens, Airport Road, Colorado Springs, Colo. . Sevices were Nov. 5 at 2 p.m., at Memorial Gardens, Colorado Springs.
