Jay Joseph Spinler

Jay Spinler, 86, lifelong resident of Montana, passed away of natural causes Oct. 27, 2010.

He graduated high school in Hingham, Mont., served in the Navy during World War II and settled in Havre afterward. He retired from Havre Public Schools as grounds foreman at the age of 62.

During his lifetime, he enjoyed gardening, raising rabbits, watching and feeding birds, woodworking, reading and dancing, but his family was the most important to him.

He is survived by his spouse, Lillian L. Spinler; his children, Eugene (Gloria) Spinler of Bartlesville, Okla., Edward (Denise) Spinler of Havre, Mont., Gerald Nichols Jr. of Denver, Colo., Anthony (Dana) Spinler of Spring, Texas, Josephine (Don) Slaymaker of Great Falls, Mont., Germaine (Lonnie) Roberts of Preston, Idaho, Bernadette (Ralph) Prosser of Spokane, Wash., Eulalie (Gary) Ophus of Great Falls, Mont., Angie (Bill) Hersman of Sherman, Texas, Roxanne Newell of Sitka, Alaska, and Priscilla (Amos) McLain of McKinney, Texas; 26 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; four brothers; four sisters; and three grandchildren.

He was a lifelong Catholic. Public services will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, followed by burial and reception. Vigil and rosary will be held at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, 7 p.m., Sunday.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Thaddeus School.
