Despite the snow, 9C girls race continues to heat up

This week in Hi-Line girls high school basketball saw some excitement, and disappointment. Friday and Saturday's snowstorm across the state brought plenty of cancellations, but there was hoops still played. On Thursday night, the in a new Class B rivalry game, the upstart Harlem Wildcats downed the Rocky Morning Stars 64-46 in Harlem. The Wildcats broke open a 27-24 game in the third quarter via a 16-8 run. Harlem carried that momentum into the fourth quarter and went on to win going away. Hypatia Getten scored a game-high 23 points to lead Harlem in the win. Rhapsody Rhines also chipped in with 16 points. Rocky Boy got 16 points from Falene Russette and 11 from Shawna Small in the loss. Thursday night also saw Roy-Winifred trounce Hays-Lodge Pole 57-33. On Friday night, a pair of important District 9C games took place. Big Sandy bounced back from a difficult loss last week to beat first-place North Star 59-50, and Box Elder, which upset the Pioneers last weekend, did it again to Chinook on Friday night. The Bears knocked off the Sugarbeeters 65- 37 to tighten the race in the 9C between all four aforementioned schools. Friday night was also a good night for the Chester/J-I Hawks. The Hawks crushed Sunburst 46-29 to stay in first place in District 10C. Meanwhile, in Glasgow, the Harlem Wildcats suffered a heartbreaking 49-48 loss. Harlem played well for the entire game, but the Scotties were able to pull the important 2B game out in the closing minute. Hypatia Getten and Jasmine Dumas combined for 30 points for the Wildcats with Getten scoring 20 and Dumas 10. No box scores were reported from Friday night's games. There were plenty of postponed games due to Saturday's blizzard which swept through the area. Chinook's game with Dodson, as well as a big 9C matchup between North Star and Box Elder were both postponed among others.
