The 24th Annual Hi-Line Invitational Tournament brought some great talent to Havre on Thursday. And with the talent came a lot of offense. At the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse, the HIT tournament got underway on Thursday with four games. The Class AA girls defeated the Class A girls 89-76, while the Class AA boys defeated the Class A boys 131-96. The Class C girls defeated the Class B girls 124-88, and the Class C boys defeated the Class B boys 93-90. In game one of the tournament, CMR's Jordan Bagley led the Class AA as well as all scorers with 39 points on 18 field goals. Helena High's Monica Grimsrud followed with 23, and both Brittany Kumm (GFH) and Allison Sullivan (CMR) added 11 a piece. For the Class A team, it was Quinn Peoples of Butte Central leading with 18 points. Jennifer Stone added 14 points and McKenzie Scofield of Livingston added 12. When the Class AA and Class A boys met on Thursday, it was the Class AA players dominating once again. The Class AA led 65-47 after two periods, and added 66 more in the second half. Brian Mulley of Billings West led all scorers with 36 points with the help of nine 3-pointers in the dominating victory. Jacob Hellyer followed his Billings West teammate with 28 points of his own, while Bozeman's Jake Owsley netted 20 points of his own. Lyle St. Goddard (Browning) and David Swecker (Laurel) both led the Class A with 17 points a piece. Browning's Cody Edwards chipped in 15 to join the scoring leaders. In another blowout performance, the Class C girls handed the Class B girls a 36-point loss. Malta's Bobbi Knudsen led with 18 points for the Class B and Rachel Ryan from Wolf point added 16. Amanda Reed of Whitehall added 12 points, but the Class C offense was too productive and tough to stop. Jessica VanDyke (Chester/ J-I) led with 21 points while Bailey Snelling (Harlowton) fallowed with 18. Jessica Sturm (Winifred/Roy) added 17 and both Megan McCafferty (Belt) and Brittany Curl (Absarokee) finished with 16 a piece. The boys Class C and Class B matchup closed day one with another tight contest. The Class C boys held a substantial lead through the first half, but after being outscored 49-42 in the second half the Class B made a solid run. Big Sandy's Corbin Pearson knocked down two crucial free throws in the last seconds to ensure the win and also led all scorers with 21 points. Joe Stulc from Winifred netted 16 and Nick Louma of Centerville added 14. For the Class B, Jordan Overstreet represented Three Forks High with a 17-point outing on 3-of- 6 3-point shooting. Alex Mitchell (Florence) was 7-of-10 from the field and fallowed with 14 points. Malta's Dane Stiles finished with 11. The HIT continues all day today and runs through Saturday in Havre.
