Candidates file, announce for legislature, commissioner

Races are assured for Hill County commissioner and House District 34 as a result of announcements this week. Dana Seidel told a meeting of Hill County Democrats Tuesday that she will run for House District 34. Republican Wendy Warburton, a oneterm incumbent, filed for r e - e l e c t i o n Jan. 14, the first day for filing. The district covers northern Hill and Blaine counties. Monday, James Catt of Havre filed as a Democrat in the race for Hill County commissioner. He will face incumbent Mike Anderson in the June 8 primary election. Jeff LaVoi, who lives on a ranch in the Bears Paw Mountains, has announced he will run as an independent for commissioner. As of press deadline this morning, he had not filed the 133 signatures of registered voters required for independents. LaVoi, who has been endorsed by Hill County Republicans, ran in the Democratic primary in 2004, losing to Anderson. Seidels filing means every local legislative race will be contested Except House District 28. Incumbent Republican Roy Hollandsworth is unopposed to date in that district, which includes western Chouteau, Liberty and eastern Toole counties. The commissioners race and the race for Hi l l County Attorney are the only contested county races to date. Democrats are thus far unopposed in all other offices except Hill County superintendent of schools, where no one has filed.. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. March 15.
