EDNA DOW obituary

Edna Hankey Dow, 97, passed away at Northern Montana Care Center March 20, 2010. Edna was born on Oct. 2, 1912, to Emma and Earl Hankey in Chinook, Mont. Edna had a wonderful sense of humor and took every day in stride, never complaining. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Havre, as well as a member of Home Demonstration Club for many years. She took up the game of golf and so enjoyed her time on the course. Edna will be fondly remembered as one who thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a great cook and beautiful seamstress. Edna always started her day with a cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle. When Edna was five years old she moved with her parents to Greybull, Wyo. After two years in Wyoming they returned to Great Falls, Mont., where she attended second through sixth grade. The family moved to Fort Benton where she graduated from high school in 1931. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre and then went to work for the F.A. Buttrey Co. For several years before marrying Charles O. Dow on Dec. 12, 1942. They left Havre during World War II, but returned shortly thereafter where she lived until the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Dow, in 1974; her parents; and her brother, Ray of Colorado Springs, Colo. She is survived by her cousin, Laura Palm of Chinook, and sister-in-law, Juanita Hankey of Colorado Springs, Colo. She is also survived by a niece, Leslie Egebrecht, and a nephew, Roger Hankey, both of Colorado; nephews, Bryan Dow of Redmond, Wash., Gary Dow of Vancouver, Wash., and Charles Dow, of Post Falls, Idaho; and her niece, Patricia Dow Gehlen of Port Orchard, Wash. Funeral services will be held at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel 11 a.m., Tuesday, with Illa McClenahan presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Edna's name at the First Presbyterian Church in Havre or to a charity of the donor's choice.
