JOLENE INEZ GARDIPEE obituary

Jolene Inez Gardipee, 72, died May 15, 2010, at her residence in Rocky Boy, Mont.

She was born July 29, 1937, at Fort Belknap, Mont., to Edward Archambault and Martha Horn. She grew up in the Rocky Boy area and later married George Lee Garipee, Oct. 5, 1973, at Rocky Boy.

She attended school at Pierre Indian School, Flandreau Indian School and Northern Montana College.

She has been employed as a Headstart teacher.

Her hobbies include powwow, rodeo, casino, gourd dancing, watching "Poker Royale," bull riding and old-time western movies on TV.

She is survived by her daughters, Toni Gardipee of Billings, Mont., Lorraine Gardipee of Helena, Mont., Helen (Burt) Butterfly of Heart Butte, Mont., Karen (Mike) Carpenter of St Claire Shores, Mont., and Deb (Ron) Newbreast of Billings, Mont .; her sons, Louis (Kitty) Gardipee of Rocky Boy, Mont .; Michael (Melissa) Gardipee of Helena, Mont., Leon (Sarah) Gardipee of Billings, Mont .; her sisters, Ramona Azure, of Zortman, Mont., Doris (Armon) Williams of Nebraska, and Alice Bowen of Seattle, Wash .; her brothers; Chuck (Veda) Archambault, Donovan (Lori) Archambault of Fort Belknap, Mont., and Frank Archambault of Seattle, Wash .; 28 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, George Lee Gardipee on March 21, 2010; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; two sons; and one daughter.

A traditional Native American wake was held at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church.

The funeral was 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Father Peter Guthneck officiating. Burial will be in the Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home of Havre assisted the family in preparations for burial.

Pallbearers are Michael Butterfly, Steve Archambault, Brent Azure, Wesley Russette Jr. Donovan Archambault Jr.

And Hunter Archambault.

Honorary pallbearer is Kirk "Charlie Brown" Archambault.
