Gerald James Skelton, 72, of Havre, Mont., died of natural causes Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Northern Montana Hospital.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Jerry was born July 5, 1937, to Carl and Jane Skelton of Geyser, Mont., where he was raised and educated. During his lifetime he was employed as a government trapper in Blaine and Hill counties for several years. He and Renie then moved to Stanford where he served as a justice of the peace, deputy sheriff and undersheriff of Judith Basin County, where he performed countless services for others, one of these being that of teaching hunter safety courses for more than 35 years.
Jerry loved to hunt and fish, which lead him to become a fishing guide on Flathead Lake for more than 10 years. He will be remembered for his ability to tell good stories among his friends.
On July 9, 1960, he married Thelma "Renie" Harlan. They later divorced.
Survivors include his daughters, Marjorie (Wes) Salisbury, Sharon (Mark) Bosch, Vickey (Herb) Webb and Andrea (Tom) Pindell; grandchildren, Nathan Pindell, Dalton Pindell, Alyssa Bosch and Lynnea Bosch; siblings, Tom (Sanna) Skelton, Phyllis Marchak and Joan (Marvin) Antila; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home of Havre.
