Dennis Andrew Perkins, 61, a Prineville. Ore., resident, passed away on Friday, May 14,
2010.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 12:30 p.m., at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore. Father Maxy D'Costa of St. John The Baptist Parrish of Milwaukie, Ore., will officiate.
Dennis was born in Havre, Mont., on June 5, 1948, to Albert and Mary (Anderwald) Perkins.
He moved to Wilsonville, Ore., in 1962 from Montana, graduating from West Lynn High School in 1966.
He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served overseas from 1967 until he was honorably discharged in 1973.
He was a member of the carpenters union in Portland. He was injured and went back to school at Chemeketa Community College and became a building inspector. He moved to central Oregon in 1993, first living in Bend, where he was Deschutes County building inspector, until he retired in
2009. In 2000, they moved to Prineville.
His wife remembers it was "love at first sight" when she met him. They were married June 17, 1978, in Reno, Nev.
He was a very laid-back kind of guy, always looking for that shade tree. He rode his bike from Portland to the coast several times. People loved being with him and socializing.
He was a very caring person and saw the humor in all things.
He loved the outdoors, riding bikes, four-wheelers, camping and fishing. He was a member of the Bend Elks Lodge 1371.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Sandy Perkins of Prineville; his sons, Dennis Joseph Perkins of Bend, Ore., and Nathan Andrew Perkins of Roseville, Calif.; his brothers, Bob Perkins of Portland, and Wes Perkins of Milwaukie, Ore.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.
Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
