Alfred L. "Babe" Morse Jr., 60, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Mont., from a brain aneurysm.
Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Rowlie Hutton officiating.
A fellowship luncheon will follow immediately after the service at the church. Memorial contributions in Babe's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
Babe was born Aug. 25, 1949, in Havre, Mont., to Alfred and Evelyn (Drobnak) Morse Sr.
Attending school in Havre and graduating from Havre High School in 1967 led to further studies for Babe at Northern Montana College. In April 1970, he began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad. On Aug. 12, 1972, he married Ann Frost and had a son Jeremy in 1974. The couple later divorced. Babe married Myrna Jones on Aug. 17, 1984, and their son Brandon was born in 1986. Babe retired as an engineer from the railroad in 2008 after 38 years.
Babe had a lifelong interest in farming north of Havre with his brothers, Brian and Dennis Morse. He enjoyed "running on the edge" in motor sports, especially snowmobiling, with friends and sons Jeremy and Brandon in Yellowstone Park and other locations. His natural mechanical abilities spurred his interest in automotive restoration ... overflowing to "Mr. Fixit" ... repairing toys and anything electrical. Watching son, Brandon, in his amazing baseball exploits, gave him many enjoyable "Daddy" hours. The twinkle in his eye was really enhanced whenever grandchildren Brody and Liddie were around.
For those who knew him well, his generous spirit of friendship was unparalleled and great sense of humor touched all he encountered. Even his beloved Sophie felt the depth of his love as they sat side by side watching "Law and Order."
After Babe and Myrna purchased their retirement home in Sun City West, Ariz., they enjoyed countless hours golfing with each other and friends, and taking early morning drives to "check out the neighborhood."
He had finally found a way to relax and enjoy the pleasures that retirement offered.
His passing leaves an irreplaceable void.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Evelyn Morse; his sister, Kathleen Morse in 1963; and several aunts and uncles.
Babe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Myrna Morse of Havre, Mont .; his two sons, Jeremy (Bobbie) Morse and Brandon (Laci) Morse, all of Havre, Mont .; his brothers, Dennis Morse and Brian (Susun) Morse, both of Havre, Mont .; two grandchildren, Brody and Liddie Morse of Havre, Mont .; and one grandchild to be delivered on May 21,
2010. He is also survived by his loving companion, his dog, Sophie.
