Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

The first full week of high school volleyball on the Hi-Line proved beneficial for some teams, while others found things very challenging.

The North Star Showcase and Chinook Invitational were the two big events on the Hi-Line this weekend, and local teams found some success at each.

In Chinook on Saturday, the Chinook Sugarbeeters came out of pool play of a solid pool play performance, but were beaten in the first round of bracket play, 2-0 by former Class B rival Malta. The Chester/J-I Hawks also looked sharp in pool play, but fell in the first round of the tournament, 2-0 to District 2B favorite Wolf Point. Chinook rebounded to beat Conrad 2-1 and Malta 2-1 in loser-out play, before finally falling in the consolation semifinals to Highwood, 2-1. The Hawks were eliminated by Glasgow 2-0.

Meanwhile, the North Star Showcase saw plenty of excitement both in Rudyard and Gildford.

Pool play on Friday saw both North Star and Big Sandy look strong. Then, the two 6C East rivals squared off in bracket play on saturday with the Pioneers winning by scores of 25-13 and 25-21. Big Sandy advanced and was defeated in the semifinals by Sunburst by scores of 25-20, 20-25 and 25-15, then the Pioneers were eliminated by Geraldine in two games.

The Knights rebounded from a loss to Big Sandy by beating Dutton-Brady 2-0, then the Tigers also eliminated the Knights in two games.

Sunburst wound up beating Fort Benton for the championship.
