When Bureau of Land Management Director Bob Abbey came to Malta recently, he heard many of us express concern about the possibility of another national monument here. I spoke personally with the director, and I was glad to see Rep. Wendy Warburton also there, standing up against big government for private property rights.
Wendy told him the federal government has more than enough control over more than enough land in Montana already. In the last legislative session, I watched Wendy serve with dedication on the House Agriculture Committee.
It was clear to me that family farms and ranches are foremost in her heart and mind. She stands against threats from environmental and animal rights extremists and the federal government, defending private property rights and supporting agriculture.
In the coming Legislature, we'll face some of the most difficult budget decisions in decades. We're talking hundreds of millions in budget shortfalls, and some very tough choices. Legislators like me will be working to shrink government spending, and fighting against raising taxes. Wendy has already proven she will fight with us for limited government, lower taxes, individual freedom, private property rights and personal responsibility.
We can stand up on the state level against the madness in Washington, D.C., but only if we elect the right people. Candidates can say anything to get elected, yet sometimes they don't follow through when they get to Helena. Rep. Wendy Warburton has already proven that she doesn't let anything stand in the way of doing what's right for north-central Montana.
