He was born the oldest of five sons to Herbert and Cora Aspevig on their homestead at Black Coulee, south of Rudyard. He spent his life farming. Hugo was very innovative and loved to create things out of materials he had on hand. Many of those creations have become useful and treasured by his family. He also loved to talk about how times had changed in farming and along the Hi-Line. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and always had a good story to tell. Hugo was active in the community, school and church. He married Lois Heydon in 1941. Together they had four children, Twila Kjensrud of Portland, Ore., Dale (Kathy) of Sedona, Ariz., Mark (Gail Matter) of Rudyard and Herbert (Mika) of Japan. Lois died in 1969. In 1974 he married Pauline, and they continued farming until he retired in the mid-1980s. They moved to Whitefish where he enjoyed his pastimes of golf, projects and travel. In 2007, they moved to Kalispell. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald, Leroy and Paul; and first wife, Lois. He is survived by his wife Pauline; his four children and their spouses; two granddaughters, Kristen and Kasey; greatgrandchildren, Iris, Nate and another great-granddaughter due any day. He is also survived by stepchildren, Connie VanDeKop, Dorie(Terry) Williams and Greg (Mary) Hover, as well as five step-grandchildren, Tammi, Adam, Tiffani, Pat and Chris. Also surviving are his brother, Roger of Helena; sisters-inlaw, Beaver of Rudyard and Wilma of Yakima, Wash.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place in Rudyard in late June.
