Catherine Caroline Pursley Brewer, 90, of Big Sandy, died of natural causes on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the Benefis Hospital in Great Falls.

She was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Lostwood, N.D., to Joseph and Mary (Bliss) Pursley. She grew up in a family of seven before moving to Montana in 1928. She met and married James (Bob) Brewer in September 1937, and to that union four children were born.

She lived and ranched southeast of Big Sandy on Birch Creek for more than 65 years. She enjoyed the ranch wife's way of life with the trials and tribulations of country life. She was an active member of the Little Flower parish group of St. Margaret Mary's Parish in Big Sandy. She enjoyed working with the church members at functions. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, family get-togethers and attending great-grandchildren's activities. She is survived by her four children, Beverly Phalen, Jerry Brewer, Cheryl Pavlovick and Jimmy Brewer, all of Big Sandy; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than 60 years; five brothers, and two sisters.

Memorials in her name may be made to Big Sandy Medical Center and St. Margaret Mary's Parish in Big Sandy.

Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Parish in Big Sandy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. with burial to follow in the Big Sandy Cemetery with Father Pete Guthneck presiding. A luncheon will be served at the parish social center following the committal service.
