Gladys Dauer, 91, passed away Friday afternoon at the Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.
Viewing will be today from 11 a.m. to 4 p. m. and family viewing from 7 p. m. to 8 p. m. at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at the St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the St. Jude Parish Center immediately after the graveside services. Service and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Gladys was born April 30, 1917, in Great Falls, Mont., to Ole and Karen (Knutson) Flatness. She was raised on a ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains. Gladys attended Northern Montana College and graduated with her associates in business and secretarial science. She worked as a bookkeeper for over 40 years, working for Ryan's in Havre and Kearns Motors in Great Falls, the United States Navy, Box Elder School, St. Jude Parish and the Hill County Court House. She married Vincent P. Dauer on June 30, 1956. The couple lived in Box Elder, where they farmed. They raised four boys. In the fall of 1969 they moved to Havre. Vincent was killed in a tragic farm accident in 1970. Gladys remained in Havre and raised her children. Gladys enjoyed baking, gardening, reading and playing crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy came from welcoming family and friends to her home and organizing the annual family reunion. Gladys will be remembered for her hospitality and her cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vincent, in 1970; one grandson, Joseph Patrick Dauer; two brothers, Kenneth and Kermit; and three sisters: Alice, Aasta, and Lucille. Gladys is survived by her sons: Patrick (Laura) Dauer of Havre, Mont., and Miami, Fla.; David (Corrine) Dauer of Ukiah, Calif.; Dan (Young Mi) Dauer of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Roger (Nancy) Dauer of Beaumont, Texas; two brothers, Maurice Flatness of Marmot, N. D., and Ole Flatness of Billings, Mont.; former daughter- in-law Leann Dauer of Okanagon, Wash.; and 12 grandchildren.
