AMOS FIRST RAISED obituary MALTA

Amos First Raised Sr., 90 years, a retired farmer and rancher, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center in Malta of natural causes.

Wake/rosary service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12 at the Red Whip Community Center. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the center with burial in the Horn Family Cemetery; East of Ft. Belknap. Amos was born Feb. 2, 1917, at Fort Belknap, the son of Henry and Alice (Gone High) First Raised Sr. His indian name was Apa-eyanga (Warrior Charges Something). Amos was raised and educated at Fort Belknap. He married Melvina Horn and they had nine children. Melvina died in 1963. Amos worked as a farmer and rancher and worked in the Turner area for over 32 years. He retired in 1989, to Harlem and moved to Malta in 1992. He was fluent in speaking the native Assiniboine language. Amos played the harmonica and enjoyed rodeos and going to Powwow's. He enjoyed having his family around him. Amos was preceded in death by his wife, Melvina; parents, Hank and Alice First Raised Sr.; brothers, Bryan, Henry Jr. And James; sisters, Josephine Johnson, Katherine Windy Boy, Margie Bercier and Mary Blackbird; daughters, Marlene and Belva; and sons, Bryan and Jesse. Survivors include his sons, Amos First Raised Jr., Frank First Raised, both of Fort Belknap; daughters, Loretta Retan of Chinook, Arleda Hopkins of Great Falls and Julia Doney of Harlem; brother, Thomas First Raised Sr. Of Las Vegas; 25 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
