Keith Stewart Gustafson, 87, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Northern Rockies Medical Center of a brain tumor.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Hi Line Funeral Home in Cut Bank. Funeral Services will be held at the Mountain View Baptist Church in Cut Bank with his good friend Pastor Bill Barnard officiating. Burial will follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Cut Bank next to his wife Irene and son Curtis. Keith was born June 7, 1920, in Brocton to William and Florence (Whitney) Gustafson. At the age of 3 his mother passed away after giving birth to twins. He and the twins were sent to North Dakota to be raised by his aunt and uncle, Lewis and Hilma Jorgenson. On Oct. 21, 1946, he married Irene Bertha Chesley in Fort Ransom, N.D. After farming in North Dakota for eight years, they moved to Cut Bank in 1954. In his early years Keith worked for GTA elevators. Later he owned a poultry farm. After selling the farm, he owned an appliance store and did appliance repair in Cut Bank and the surrounding area. His last business was building and managing a motel. Keith retired at the age of 78. He enjoyed traveling. Keith and Irene traveled around the United States for a couple of years with the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and playing with his many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene, who passed away 11 months ago; his young son, Curtis Keith Gustafson; a brother, Milton Gustafson; two nephews and one niece. Keith is survived by his children, Lorrene (Ray) Bergh of Havre, Beverly (Steve) Bakker of Billings, Ron (Dora) Gustafson of Galveston, Texas and LeRoy (Lisa) Gustafson of Berthoud, Colo.; sister, Marjorie Fjeld of Valley City, N.D.; brother, Don (Zoe) Gustafson of Whitefish; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews. Family request that memorial be made to Mountain View Baptist Church in Cut Bank, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetic Association or charity of donors choice. Hi Line Funeral Home in Cut Bank is in charge of arrangements.
