PERCY JOHN PLUMAGE obituary LODGE POLE

Percy John Plumage, 74, died Monday, July 23, 2007, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.

A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Medicine Bear Center in Lodge Pole. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Medicine Bear Center. The committal rite will be celebrated at the Big Warm Family Cemetery. A fellowship reception will follow the committal at the Medicine Bear Center. Percy John Plumage, “Walks All Over The Mountain,” was born Jan. 1, 1933, to Paul and Elizabeth (Chandler) Plumage at Hays. He grew up in and around the Hays and Lodge Pole areas. In 1951 he enlisted in the Army, and attended basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He then attended and graduated from airborne training. After completion of infantry training and jump school, he was transferred to Korea for combat duty. He spent 13 months in Korea where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. After release from the Army, he attended culinary school and then returned to Montana to work as a farm and ranch hand. He later married Ruby First Smoke and lived out the remainder of his life with Ruby. Percy was a kind and gentle man that would always lend a helping hand and a sympathetic ear to all he met. When he and Ruby married she had several children that he raised as his own. He was always available to assist and guide his children and stepchildren, and later his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Vera Cliff, Justine First Smoke, Edwina First Smoke and Peggy Jo Wing; brother, Dennis Healy; and sisters, Aurelia Spencer and Mary Jo Doney. Percy is survived by his wife, Ruby First Smoke; son, Kermit Eagleman of Rocky Boy; stepson, Delbert Hawkey Jackson, Jr. Of Lodge Pole; stepdaughters, Nadine Has Eagle, Hannah Has Eagle, Leeann First Smoke and Jamie Lynn McCabe, all of Fort Belknap; 40 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Aloysius (Carol) Chandler of Harlem; and sisters, Camie Doney of Hays, Elouise Geiser of Glasgow and Corali Turns Plenty of Pryor. The Plumage family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
