Ernest F. Martin, 91, died Friday, July 20, 2007, of natural causes at his residence in Havre.
Services will be Friday at 11 a. m. at the Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Glasgow. Ernest was born March 8, 1916, in Poplar to Doit “Dick” Martin and Nelfina Erickson Martin. Ernie owned and operated Martin Repair in Tampico. Madge Burrus and Ernie were married on June 20, 1936, in Glasgow and had one son, Ron Martin. Ernie began work for Richard Motzkau (in what was to become Martin Repair) in 1937 and remained as sole proprietor and mechanic for over 60 years. His goal in life was to serve the farmers and ranchers of the Tampico area. He enjoyed flying his “Cub” in his younger years. Ernie and Madge loved to go square dancing, and he enjoyed watching baseball on TV. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge in 1981; and a son, Ron in 1998. Survivors include his sister, Nina Coffer of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandsons, Todd Martin of Rossland, B.C. and Corby Martin of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter-in-law, Josephine Martin of Havre; sisters-in-law, Annie Martin of Tulsa, Gettie Gilleland of Bozeman, Mary Hassler of Glasgow, Norma Maney of Holter, Ill., and Eunice Moen of Glasgow; and brothers-in-law, Mark Gilleland and Wendy Maney. Memorials are suggested to Bear Paw Hospice c/o Northern Montana Hospital, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501 or the Valley County Pioneer Museum, 816 Highway 2, Glasgow, MT 59230. Arrangements are being made by Bell Mortuary of Glasgow.
