Myrtle Grace Wilson, 103, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, of natural causes at the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church with burial following in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Myrtle was born Jan. 10, 1904 to Knute O. and Marie (Wold) Severson on the family farm near Brantford, N.D., one of eight children. She grew up on the farm and attended school in that area. In 1924 she married Francis A. Anderson, to this union three children were born. In 1929 the family moved to Chinook. Mr. Anderson later passed away. In 1940 she attended the Chinook Beauty School. The school was located where the Chinook Centennial Park is now located. Her instructor was Bea Gartiz and after she graduated she established her shop right next to the school. She operated her business there for many years. In 1945 she married Dr. Lorne Wilson. The couple purchased a building on Fourth Street from attorney D.J. Silas. She moved her business to the front half of the building and Dr. Wilson located his Osteopathic practice in the other half. Myrtle operated her business until 1981 when she sold it to her grand-daughternin-law, Tove Elvorm, wife of Dick King, and retired. Myrtle always had a kind word and a sincere listening ear for all she met. The patrons of the Beauty Shop knew they could get good counsel and a caring heart whenever they visited the shop. All that met her loved her for all that she offered, usually a kind word, an uplifting hand, or just a listening ear. She will leave a void in the hearts of all that knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Knute and Marie Severson; husbands, Francis Anderson and Dr. Lorne Wilson; sons, Dr. Norman Anderson and Ronald “Vern” Anderson; two brothers and four sisters. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Grace King of Chinook; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Lutheran Church or Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
