p. m. Friday, July 6, 2007 in the Lloyd Sweet Auditorium of the Chinook High School with burial following in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Betty Don touched the lives of many in wonderful ways through her friendship, her community involvement and her service in organizations within Montana and locally. Ross was born in Lewistown to Donald A. and Betty (Shammel) McMillan on Jan. 12, 1928. She was educated at Glengarry and graduated from Fergus County High School in Lewistown. She went on to Montana State College where she graduated with a bachelor' of science degree in home economics in 1949. She was a cooperative extension service home extension agent in Teton and Blaine counties. She married Warren Ross of Chinook on Nov. 25, 1950 and moved to the ranch on Clear Creek in the Bear Paw Mountains. Ross believed strongly in community service and participated in many state and local organizations and activities including MSU Alumni Advisory Board, as a 4-H leader, on the Montana Constitutional Review, the North Central Montana Cattlewomen, and the Montana Cattlewomen, the Blaine County Planning Board, as a community election judge, and the Ag in Montana Schools project. She enjoyed her many friends in the area and was an active member and elder of the Presbyterian Church, Ikebana International, the Mountain Community Club, the Lloyada Ladies, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. Her friends, which included everyone who met her, enjoyed her sense of humor and her wonderful way of expressing it. She delighted in such expressions as the “hurrieder I go, the behinder I get,” and named three kittens Surely, Goodness and Mercy for the line from Psalm 23: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”. Ross inspired a love of learning in those whom she came in contact with, always having odd bits of inspirational information, ranging from birds of Montana, to wild plants, to the stars, planets and constellations. One of the treasured memories of her grandchildren was watching the stars on visits to the ranch. Ross is survived by her husband; four children Don (Tanis) Ross of Chinook, Linda (J.D.) Rice of Choteau, John (Leslie) Ross of Crystal Lake, IL and Hugh (Debbie) Ross of West Linn; Ore.; eight grand-children; and two great-grandchildren. Ross also is survived by two brothers, Angus (Laura) McMillan and Tom (Virginia) McMillan, both of Lewistown; and a brother-in-law Tom (Eva) Ross of Seattle. Memorials may be sent to the Shriner's Hospital, North Central Cattlewoman's Scholarship, Presbyterian Church or one's choice. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
