WILLIAM HENRY WALLS obituary

William Henry Walls, 55, of Havre died Monday, June 25, 2007, from complications of heart disease.

A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Red Whip Center on Fort Belknap. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Red Whip Center with Pastor Toney Castillo officiating. The committal rite will be at the Harlem Cemetery following the funeral service. A fellowship reception will be held, following the internment, at the Red Whip Center. “Billy” was born March 31, 1952, in Fort Belknap Agency to James Eugene and Edith Mae (Earthboy) Walls, one of 11 children. He grew up in the Fort Belknap and Harlem area and attended school in Harlem. One day, the family encouraged him to assist them in hoeing sugar beets. After some time he made the statement that he would never again lift anything heavier than a pencil. He returned to school and graduated from Harlem High School in 1970 then Haskell University with a bachelor's degree in business. After college, he worked for the Native American Alliance serving as the executive director in Butte, Missoula, Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy. His main responsibilities were in the areas of finance and grant writing. He was married once and fathered five children. The couple later divorced. All who knew him felt that he was very accepting of those around him, always willing to do whatever was necessary to assist another in their circumstances. He played guitar and sang for all who would listen. He also had a great love for football, especially the blue and silver of the Dallas Cowboys, catching as many games as possible then waiting for the new season to begin. He is preceded in death by his father, James E. Walls; step-father, James E. Earthboy; brother, James “Gooch” Earthboy; sister, Mary Jane Earthboy; maternal grandparents, Jennie Birdtail and Ben Takes the Bow; paternal grandparents, William H. and Mamie (Gunn) Walls. Billy is survived by his children, Kim (Alvin) DeClay of White River, Ariz., Eugene James (Toni) Walls and Melissa Mae Walls, both of Billings, William Henry (Tiffany) Walls of Harlem and Shelby Mae Walls of Belgrade; mother, Edith Mae Earthboy Walls; sisters, Joyce (Toney) Castillo, Deborah (Francis) Cochran, both of Fort Belknap, Lydia (James) Montes of Rocky Boy; Tina Marie (Curtis) Moats of Wolf Point, Helen (Burt) Butterfly of Heart Butte, Geraldine (Melvin) Rutherford, Stephanie (Ivon) Earthboy and Becky Earthboy, all of Fort Belknap; brothers, James E. (Betty) Walls of Fort Belknap, Robert J. (Gloria) Earthboy and Tony (Sharon) Earthboy of Pablo; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The commission for the services was granted to Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
