Jelmer Jay Meyers, 78, of Havre died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at his daughter's home in Havre, surrounded by loving family, after a battle with mesothelioma.
His service will be held at Fifth Avenue Christian Church, 2015 Fifth Ave., Havre, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Jay was born in Conrad on Jan. 17, 1929, to Dave and Ruby Meyers. He attended high school in Conrad, after which he served in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean War. Jay married Donna Wesley in 1950 and moved to Lynden, Wash., in 1953. Jay returned to Montana in 1973, where he met Gina Gebhardt. They married on Feb. 2, 1975. Jay worked most of his life as a contractor and carpenter, building barns, milking parlors and grain elevators. In later life, Jay was a contract mail carrier. He could never stand to be idle. He gardened, growing both flowers and vegetables. He also kept busy by doing home repairs and tinkering with autos. Jay was a loving husband, brother and father. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Ruby Meyers; wife, Gina Meyers; and brother, Everett Meyers. Survivors include his sister, Lou (Bill) Adams; sister-in-law, Shirley Meyers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vivian and Ardell Tollefson; daughters, Tami (Butch) Duncan, Kristin (Jim) Horgdal, Renee (Dave) Thompson, Starla (Terry Garrison) Meyers and Joanne (Ted) Beard; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
