Janice Schmidt, 61, of Havre and formerly of Malta, died Monday, May 21, 2007, after a long battle of cancer, with her husband, Ed Schmidt, by her side.
A graveside service will be held at the Malta Cemetery on Friday at 3 p.m. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jan's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in her home in Havre. Jan was born Sept. 25, 1945, in Glasgow to Ernie and Millie (Erickson) Gilbertson. She grew up and attended school in Malta and graduated from the Malta High School. Jan then married the true love of her life, Edward L. Schmidt, became a world traveler and started her family. The love she had for her family was and always will be truly unconditional. She worked hard throughout her life helping others and making this world a better place for so many people. She helped run Millie's Ceramics with both of her parents for years and her paintbrush touched many lives. The artwork she left behind is priceless and it accurately portrays the true beauty of her loving heart. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Gilbertson; and sister, Nancy Emond. Jan is survived by her husband, Edward L. Schmidt of Havre; daughter, Stacy (Henry) Riordan of Arlington, Va.; son, Steve (Leanna Beers) Schmidt of Missoula; parents, Ernie and Millie Gilbertson of Malta; brothers, Don (Dolly) Gilbertson of Hardin, and Neill (Louise) Gilbertson of Albuquerque, N. M.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, also to include their families. Services are under the direction of Edward's Funeral Home of Chinook.
