Mark Fay Reid, 53, a letter carrier for the Havre post office, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at his home. His cause of death was due to a heart attack.
His funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Rice officiating. A fellowship dinner will be held at the V.F.W. Club immediately after the services. A full military burial will be held at Fort Harrison Veteran's Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Helena. Mark was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Minot, N.D., to Lloyd and Dearling (Wyman ) Dorcet. He was raised and educated in Minot and moved with his family his senior year of high school to Chinook. He entered into the Air Force in 1971 and was stationed in Fort Bragg, Colo., and Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1978. He operated a gas station in Anchorage, Ala., for a few years and then moved back to Montana and settled in the Choteau area. He moved to Chester to work at the shovel factory. There he met Donna Marcene. Mark started work in Havre at True Value after the shovel plant closed in Chester. Mark and Donna married July 31, 1982, in Chester and made their home in Chinook. Mark started work at the Havre post office on Oct. 16, 1982, as a letter carrier. Mark enlisted with the Montana National Guard in Havre in 1981 and retired from the Guard as first sergeant in 1994. The couple moved to Havre and purchased a home in 1984. Mark had worked for the Havre post office for 24 years. Mark had a “gruff” personality that came with a large heart and a very dry sense of humor. His grandchildren were his No. 1 priority in his life. He enjoyed them when they would come to visit. He loved to teach them how to play golf and baseball. He would spoil them and then send them home. Mark enjoyed golfing; he participated in golf league for many years. He enjoyed gardening, collecting and selling sport cards and memorabilia, NASCAR racing, and participated in fantasy football. He was a huge Green Bay Packer fan and always watched them play on TV. Mark enjoyed playing baseball. He played since he was a young boy and continued for many years, participating in Havre's city baseball league. Mark was preceded in death by his adopted father, Glenn Reid; and brother, Terry Reid. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Donna Reid of Havre; mother, Dearling Reid of Havre; children, Michelle McMoughlin, December Reid and Duane Reid, all of St. Ignatius, Robert Shepherd of Havre, Terri McCracken of Great Falls and Lon Shepherd of Helena; brothers, Bill and Todd Reid of Havre; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Mark's honor may be made to the North Central Senior Citizens Center, 2 Second St. W., Havre, MT 59501. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
