ALAN STERRY obituary

HINGHAM Alan Sterry, 62, of Hingham, beloved brother and son, died by his own hand on the family farm north of Hingham on Saturday, May 19, 2007.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hingham Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Hingham Cemetery. He was born Alan Leroy Sterry on Aug. 26, 1944, at Havre to Alton and Nedra (Hanson) Sterry. He grew up on the family farm and received his formal education at Hingham. Alan began his farming career with his father when he was 12 years old. This farm year marked his 50th year in Montana agriculture. He lived his entire life on the Sterry homestead and was deeply attached to the farm and to the surrounding prairie. Alan was a doer constantly involved in some kind of work occasionally taking off to go fishing or golfing. He was also an avid collector of art. Alan was well-known locally. He was a kind and gentle soul who was highly regarded by his friends for his honesty and integrity. He was a deeply caring person who quietly engaged in philanthropy his entire adult life, giving generously to a variety of worthwhile causes. A staunch Democrat, he was never afraid to voice his opinion on controversial issues. Alan was a rare and remarkable man. Alan never married. Alan was preceded in death by his father, Alton in 1997. Survivors include his mother, Nedra Sterry of Eugene, Ore.; sisters, Sandra (John) Dixon of Eugene, and Jill (Jerry) Kordonowy of Livingston; brothers, Rick (Carole) Sterry of Eugene, and Craig Sterry of Great Falls; two nieces; three nephews; and numerous cousins.
